Things hattnin'. To start off, new Facebook page up and can be found here. Get your like on and stay up to date with things since it will most likely recieve more updates than this-here site (which will remain the home of big updates and releases). Two shows booked for January! I/O NYC - one of NYC's greatest monthly chip installments, was kind enough to ask me to join the likes of Zen Albatross and Rockman. Details here Also will be hitting up MAGFest 9! Three days of non-stop music and games action in the Nation's Capital. January: let's rock. * * *
It's been a while since I released anything proper so I thought I would toss together a little bit of my more recent stuff into a .zip to prove to y'all that I hadn't died or zombified or stopped making music er seomthing. 12345 is a collection of tracks written on the 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 trains of the New York subway system from February to May. They are loud, hard-hitting and fast. While this is less of a concept album and more of a collection, I think all the tracks share the same theme of movement, rhythm and noise that are such a part of commuting by train. In other news, two other releases are near completion. One release was started before leaving Japan and hopes to deliver songs with an element of storytelling while the second will be a full-on fleshing out of the slower, funkier, hip-hoppier tracks presented at the Pre-Blip 2010 Open-Mic. A video of that can be found here. Enjoy 12345 and let me know what you think! * * *
Seems my little noise maker was included in recent a Create Digital Music article on DIY sequencers. Nice surprise! If you're looking to put one of these sequencer's together, I can't recommend enough taking a look at the Baby 10 schematics and the Voice of Saturn Sequencer schematics. They are essentially the same but with little tweeks. A video of the breadboard version of the noisemaker has a little better explanation of what's going on. The noise maker was featured in the 48 hour challenge track "Before the Empire" that you can check out in the player to the right. In other news, sync troubles still abound but I'm working on it. Looks like Nanoloop might get clock sync sooner than LSDJ (still thanks to little-scale). Work on the upcoming full length release goes on. Perhaps June? * * *
I've added a couple new LSDJ custom kits in the files section. BANG is a kit of sampled gunfire and gun related sounds (cocking, ricochet etc). SX150 is a kit of samples taken from the Gakken SX-150 Analog Hobby Synth. CLAPS is a kit of assorted claps taken from freesound.org (samples credited to user in the accompanied txt file). WILLY is a beatsliced sample from the first couple bars of of Frank Zappa's Willy the Pimp. In other news: I've been putting a little more time into FM synthesis (mainly from the Yamaha CX7M II/128). I've also ordered a MIDI clock sync for the GB from the eternally productive little-scale. Once it has arrived and I've combined it with Low-Gain's 1x3 Game Boy SyncBox, I think the new arsenal will be complete. More to come soon. * * *
A couple things went down recently. I've added a new section up top for the Gakken SX-150 Synthesizer - a fun little synthesizer that comes bundled with a magazine here in Japan. I'll hopefully be periodically upadating it with mods and the like. In other news: I put together a cover of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer opening theme (music by Nerf Herder) for an upcoming TV Show compilation. Be sure to check out the video here. Be sure to click "watch in High Quality". * * *
Four unreleased tracks (+1 that was kinda released) of unabashed crunchy dance music spat forth live at Club Wax in Tomakomai. The recording is not great - clipping a couple times - and I had a couple fuckups but I guess it wouldn't be live without a couple blemishes right? There's only a slim chance that I would ever record these tracks outside of a live session (don't think I could match the energy and flow) so take it as it is and gimme your thoughts if you've got the time. Enjoy RAIBU 9.08. * * *
Welcome to the brand spankin' new web home of Note!'s chip music. Everything is still in the pretty early stages so expect a few things to change before they actually start settling down. Although it's all pretty self explanatory, here you should be able to find all of my releases (both self-releases and compilations or collaborations I've participated in), photos and general artistry, links of general 8-bit and chip interest, and anything else that I should deem site-worthy. Hopefully it'll provide entertaining and perhaps even useful to someone other than me. ( ^-^) |

Thanks a lot to Club Wax, the people who came out to dance and especially Astu Nakatsubo (fish tone) who had enough faith to let me assault people's ears with GameBoy music for 25 minutes. Seriously, thank you Atsu. If you have a moment, check out his label TTB Studio which will be releasing The Hollow Organ - basement later this month. Should be available on iTunes around mid October.
